The model and design for Republic of Singapore Navy’s future submarine, Type 218SG has broke light at IMDEX 15. Coffee n Bullets (CnB) managed to catch a glimpse of the model at German sub maker, Thyssen Krupp’s booth at this year’s IMDEX Asia 15. The model was labelled Type 218 on the name plate, with specs as follows:
Length: Approx 70m
Diameter :Approx 6.3m
Surface Displacement: Approx 2,000tons
That will put it in the league of the Type 214 (65m, 1,690tons), or the Dolphin 2 (68.6m, 2050 tons).
Unlike the Type 212 streamlined, tapered conning tower, the model closely resemble’s a Type 209PN or even a Type 214. Like the 214, the model also features eight torpedo tubes (probably 533mm), and of course no details on the propellers.
